Abstract
This clinical study was performed on 56 patients with nipple discharge from 391 operated patients due to breast disease at the Department of Surgery, Chunnam University Hospital from January 1989 to August 1993.
@ES The results were as follows:
@EN 1. Among 56 patients who presented with abnormal nipple discharge, 22 patients (39.3%) were diagnosed to have breast cancer.
But among total 203 patients with breast cancer, only 9.6% of patients presented with abnormal nipple discharge.
All patients with intraductal papilloma were presented with abnormal nipple discharge.
2. Among 28 patients(50%) were 4 decades, 10 patients were diagnosed to have breast cancer.
Among 8 patients above 50 years old, 7 patients were diagnosed to have breast cancer.
3. 27 patients (48.2%) presented with bloody nipple discharge.
Among 22 patients with breast cancer, 14 patients (63.6%) presented with bloody nipple discharge.
4. 9 patients from single duct and 13 patients from multiple ducts were diagnosed to have breast cancer.
5. There had no difference with frequency of abnormal nipple discharge from both breast.
6. According to pathologic classification of breast cancer, infiltrating ductal carcinoma was most common pathologic type.
7. the results of stage of breast cancer were 9 patients(40.9%) in stage II, 7 patients (31.8%) in stage III, 5 patients(22.7%) in stage I, only 1 patients(4.6%) in stage IV.
8. Among 16 patients with abnormal nipple discharge, 42 patients (75%) had palpable mass. And among 22 patients with breast cancer, 21 patients had palpable mass.
